Slow Feeder Bowls

Dogs (and some people too) are prone to gulping or bolting their food or water down far too quickly. And because this can result in swallowing excess amounts of air along with the food or water, this rapid eating rate can cause indigestion, nasuea, and in some extreme cases bloat, which can be a life threatening condition. It is easy for people to learn to slow down at meal times, but explaining this to a dog is virtually impossible.

Thankfully the solution is available in the form of slow feeder bowls. These bowls have risen areas inside the base that physically prevent a dog from grabbing at larger quantities of food or water too quickly, and so encouraging a slower pace of ingestion. This helps reduce excessive air intake, leading to improved digestion and greatly reducing the risk of bloat. These sturdy plastic bowls are available in small (20cm, 0.45l), medium (23cm, 0.9l) and large (27cm, 1.5l), and have non-slip bases. Available colours are red, white and blue.

We use the medium bowl for our Bichon Frise, who had a terrible habit of gulping his food really quickly and then vomitting on a regular basis.
