The Aidi is a medium sized friendly looking dog. The body is lean and muscular with a heavily plumed tai. The bear-like head has a tapering muzzle, a black or brown nose, dark eyes and folded ears. The weather-resistant double coat is coarse and dense, and the colouring varies and tends to include white, black and pale red. Males tend to have a mane on the neck.
Temperament
Aidis are alert, eager and protective dogs. They are powerful, agile and very active, and thrive best when they have a task to perform, and so are best suited as working dogs. However, they can be friendly and loyal house pets but need plenty of attention otherwise they may become bored, depressed or destructive. As a sensitive breed, they require kind yet firm training, and are more suited to those with some experience of dog ownership and training. Aidis are gentle but protective and are usually fine with older, more considerate children, and they generally get along with other dogs and animals too. As they are very protective by nature as well as couragous, these dogs are wary around strangers and make really good watchdogs.
History & Skills
Aidis originate from Morocco, possibly from the Sahara region, and have worked in the Atlas Mountains for centuries guarding owners and properties from wildcats and other predators. Some sources claim they also worked as sheepdogs but this is incorrect. This rare breed is still used as a working dog to this day but has also become more common as a housedog.

Grooming
Aidis are medium shedders and so may not be best suited to those suffering with allergies. Their grooming requirements are typical for any thick coated dog, and they will need brushing at least twice a week to remove dead hair. A monthly bath is advisable and they may need trimming in summer months to prevent overheating.
Exercise & Environment
Aidis can live indoors but are not suitable for small homes such as apartments. They prefer country life too but can adapt to urban environments. These dogs are agile and very active and need a lot of exercise, and make good jogging companions. They will need a daily walk plus access to an outside area, which should be secure as these dogs have exceptional noses and may wish to follow scents.
